Matthew F. Yuyun

I have extensive training in general medicine, cardiology, cardiac electrophysiology, and cardiovascular epidemiology. I am dedicated to upholding excellent clinical practice in the field of cardiology and clinical cardiac electrophysiology, promoting clinical teaching and supervision of medical students and postgraduate medical trainees, as well as undertaking and fostering cardiovascular research. I have experience in teaching medical students at Warwick Medical School (UK) and residents & fellows at the University Hospitals of Leicester (UK), and presently at Harvard Medical School and Boston University School of Medicine (USA). After obtaining an MD degree in Cameroon, I subsequently obtained a Commonwealth Scholarship award to undertake additional training at the University of Cambridge, United Kingdom, where I received both MPhil (Biostatistics & Epidemiology) and PhD (Cardiovascular Epidemiology) degrees. I remained in the UK to complete residency in Internal Medicine (2003-2006, at Cambridge University Hospitals) followed by Family Medicine (2006-2008, at Birmingham Heartlands Hospital & Northbrook Health Centre). After working as an attending primary care physician, I undertook Cardiology Fellowship training at the University Hospitals of Leicester (2010-2016), after which I worked as a consultant (attending) General Cardiologist at Milton Keynes University Hospital, England for a few months before moving to Massachusetts, USA, to complete a Clinical Cardiac Electrophysiology Fellowship at Lahey Hospital & Medical Center (2016-2017). From January 2018, I joined the VA Boston Healthcare System as an attending Cardiac Electrophysiologist & General Cardiologist with faculty appointments at Harvard Medical School and an Adjunct at Boston University School of Medicine. As a cardiologist, electrophysiologist, and epidemiologist, my academic interests include cardiovascular epidemiology research in cardiac arrhythmias, heart failure, and cardiac implantable electronic devices either through observational studies or clinical trials. I have been invited to act as a reviewer for medical and biomedical journals. I am also interested and involved in the collaborative work on epidemiology of cardiovascular diseases in the developing world with currents projects including cardiac arrhythmias in Sub-Saharan African.
