Christian Mielke received the Diploma degree in geology and paleontology from the Freie Universität Berlin, Berlin, Germany, in 2009. He is currently working toward the Ph.D. degree with the GFZ German Research Center for Geosciences, Potsdam, Germany, developing algorithms for the mapping and characterization of mine waste and mineral deposit sites in Namibia and South Africa with the German hyperspectral spaceborne Environmental Mapping and Analysis Program (EnMAP). He pursued research in geology with the African Earth Observatory Network (AEON), University of Cape Town, Cape Town, South Africa, and also with the Nelson Mandela Metropolitan University (NMMU), Port Elizabeth, South Africa, before joining the GFZ German Research Center for Geosciences, in 2012.
