Dr. Ying Yin Tsui is currently a professor in the Faculty of Engineering. He served as Acting Vice Dean (2021 - 2022), Associate Dean of Research & Internationalization (2015 - 2021) and Associate Chair of Graduate Studies for Electrical & Computer Engineering (2004 - 2007 & 2009 - 2014). He has been a Guest Scientist of the Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory and was a visiting scientist of the Stanford University's SLAC National Accelerator Laboratory. He is a Senior Member of the IEEE and a registered Professional Engineering the province of Alberta. He was the Chair of the Division of Plasma Physics of the Canadian Association of Physicists. He has been involved in organizing many scientific conferences including as the Chair of the 43rd IEEE International Conference on Plasma Science and the 2017 International Workshop on Warm Dense Matter. He is a reviewer for research proposals, publications, university appointments & promotions. He has served on many local, national and international scientific advisory and research grant committees and boards. Dr. Y. Y. Tsui is interested in the interaction of electromagnetic waves with matter. His research is mainly focused on the fundamental understanding of the interaction of optical radiation with matter as well as the development of several photonic applications. In addition, he is also interested in the interaction of electromagnetic waves with matter at other frequencies including x-ray and THz. Currently, he is using ultrafast pump-probe techniques to gain fundamental understanding of Warm Dense Matter and High Energy Density Matter and uses the knowledge for applications including laser materials processing and inertial confinement fusion. He is also applying laser light scattering techniques to study complex materials and focuses on environmental and biomedical applications. Dr. Y. Y. Tsui has published over 150 scientific articles, given over 50 invited talks and contributed to over 200 conference presentations.
