Bio
V. Yanovsky received the Ph.D. degree from the General Physics Institute, USSR Academy of Sciences.
His doctoral work was on ND:glass laser development and laser-produced-plasma diagnostics. In 1992, he shifted his interest to the femtosecond laser field and joined Cornell University, Ithaca, NY, where he developed diode-pumped femtosecond Cr:LISGAF and Kerr-lens mode-locked Cr:forsterite oscillators. At Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory (1996–1999), he expanded his interests to chirped-pulse amplification femtosecond lasers working on 100 TW and petawatt hybrid Ti:sapphire-Nd:glass systems. Since 1999, he has been with the Center for Ultrafast Optical Science, University of Michigan, Ann Arbor, where he is developing a high-contrast 100-TW Ti:sapphire laser for high field science.
