Swapnil Tripathi

Swapnil is a DPhil candidate at the Faculty of Law, focusing on the powers of judicial review exercised by the Hon'ble Supreme Court of India. He is examining the judicial tools of Public Interest Litigation and Suo Moto cognisance, and the impact of neglecting procedure in cases involving the Constitution, under the supervision of Prof. Kate O Regan. His research is funded by the Oxford India Centre for Sustainable Development (Somerville College) as a Gopal Subramanian Scholar. Prior to starting the DPhil, he completed the BCL in 2021, reading for the papers Comparative Equality Law, Constitutional Theory, Comparative Constitutional, and Families & The State: Children. Swapnil completed his undergraduate studies in law from the National Law University, Jodhpur wherein he read for the BBA.LLB (Constitutional Law Hons.) programme and graduated with the Vice Chancellor's Gold Medal for the Best All Round Student. He worked as a Teaching Assistant/Research Associate for Prof. I.P. Massey (Dean, National Law University, Jodhpur) in the subjects of Administrative Law and Comparative Constitutional Law. Swapnil is a lawyer/advocate qualified to practice law in India and has cleared the Bar. Prior to studying at Oxford, he was practising before the Courts of New Delhi. He is extremely passionate about making the law accessible to the citizens and to that effect has been running his personal blog "The Basic Structure" wherein he simplifies India's constitutional law for the common man. The Blog has been features by several national dailies in India.
