Dr. Gravenstein has a long-standing interest in immunity, inflammation, cardiovascular outcomes and aging especially in the context of vaccines and the long-term care setting, and the topic of the majority of his publications. Why do older adults experience disease differently than younger ones? What can we do to enhance the quality of late life? How do we provide better care for our oldest patients? How do we evolve senior care environments into places we want to be in late life rather than places we "have to" be? My research and focus centers around these questions, much of it studied through work relating to infection, infection prevention, immune senecence and quality improvement. From bench to population science, our work endeavors to qualitatively change living for older adults. In the coming years, we hope to merge our siloed questioning with team science that better bridges institutions and disciplines to produce better ideas and better solutions.
