Bio
Steven M. Guertin received his B.S. degree in mathematics and physics for California State Polytechnic University, Pomona, and the M.S. and Ph.D. degrees in physics from University of California, Los Angeles, in 1997, 2001, and 2008, respectively, with graduate work focused on particle-particle collisions and event analysis. He joined the Jet Propulsion Laboratory, California Institute of Technology's Radiation Effects Group in 1997, performing numerous tests of electronic components for potential flight missions. Owing to a strong background in practical computer applications, often focused on maximizing performance through software-to-hardware code manipulation, he leads the Radiation Effects Group's efforts on computer-architecture related radiation studies. Dr. Guertin has authored/co-authored over twenty refereed scientific or technical papers, one book chapter, one IEEE Nuclear and Space Radiation Effects conference best paper, and two best Data Workshops. He received the National Aeronautics and Space Administration's Exceptional Engineering Achievement Medal in 2017 “for exceptional technical excellence in advancing NASA's and industry's understanding of radiation effects in complex computer processors and memories.”
