Research interests focus on development of novel therapies for childhood cancer and supportive care for cancer patients, including management of toxicities of high-dose methotrexate and asparaginase; tumor lysis syndrome; osteonecrosis; stem cell transplantation; and others. This research has included studies of acute kidney injury due to delayed elimination of high-dose methotrexate, endocrinopathies, tumor lysis syndrome, thrombosis, sinusoidal obstruction syndrome, and hypersensitivity to protein-based therapies like asparaginase.
I bring to bear training in internal medicine, pediatric oncology, epidemiology, and informatics plus 25 years of clinical, translational, and implementation research experience with a global network of colleagues. This experience complements a strong background in analytics and information technology and a track record of publication and dissemination of findings that includes animal models of chemotherapy toxicity; phase 1, 2, 3, 4, and health economics and outcomes research studies; and treatment regimens adapted to optimize cancer care in low- and middle-income countries. I have led cross-functional teams in many countries, developed research and education networks, and mentored thought leaders on five continents. Finally, it has been a pleasure to support industry partners with all phases of clinical development of new therapeutics, including launch planning, post-marketing implementation research, medical affairs, pharmacovigilance, strategic planning, thought leadership, education, and market research.
