Ryan Jacobs received the B.S. degree in materials science and engineering from the University of Minnesota-Twin Cities, Minneapolis, MN, USA, in 2010, the M.S. and Ph. D. degrees in materials science from the University of Wisconsin–Madison, Madison, WI, USA, in 2012 and 2015, respectively. He is currently a Research Scientist with the Department of Materials Science and Engineering, University of Wisconsin–Madison. His work focuses on using atomistic modeling and machine learning to understand the structure and properties of materials at the atomic scale, with a particular focus on the discovery and engineering of novel material compounds for specific technological applications. His main research application areas of interest comprise materials for energy technology, such as solid oxide fuel cells, lithium ion batteries, and solar photovoltaics, with another main thrust of his research centered around investigating the surface electronic and thermodynamic properties of metals and oxides used as electron emission cathodes.
