Professor Roy Campbell received his Honors B.S. degree in Mathematics with a Minor in Physics from the University of Sussex in 1969 and his M.S. and Ph.D. degrees in Computer Science from the University of Newcastle upon Tyne in 1972 and 1976, respectively. In 1976 he joined the faculty of the University of Illinois and in 1985 became a Full Professor of Computer Science. In 2004, he was awarded the Sohaib and Sara Abbasi Professorship and also became an IEEE Fellow. He has supervised 43 Ph.D. dissertations and 123 M.S. theses, and is the author of over 260 research papers. His current research includes cloud computing, security for the power grid (in TCIPG), 3-D multimedia, and data-mining performance profiles. Campbell is Director of Graduate Admissions and Advancement in the Department of Computer Science, Director of the Assured Cloud Computing University Center of Excellence, and Director of the NSA-designated University of Illinois Center of Academic Excellence in Information Assurance Education and Research. His current funding includes NSF-supported projects on Data-Intensive Cloud Computing and H-Media (the Holistic-Multistream Environment for Distributed Immersive Applications) and he has industrial projects with Intel and Boeing.
