Ralf Horn

Ralf Horn received the Dipl.-Ing. degree in electrical engineering from Ruhr-Universitaet-Bochum, Bochum, Germany, in 1983. His major subjects were telecommunications and radio frequency engineering. He joined the Microwaves and Radar Institute (DLR-HR), German Aerospace Center (DLR), in 1983. From 1983 to 1986, he worked as a Radar Engineer on the development of DLR's airborne experimental SAR system E-SAR and later became a SAR Systems Engineer. In 1994, he was promoted as the Team Leader of the “Airborne SAR” Group, SAR Technology Department. His responsibilities today are mainly focused on managing the new DLR airborne SAR system F-SAR and on the management, coordination, and execution of DLR airborne SAR missions in Europe and abroad. In particular, under his leadership, the F-SAR, PLMR2, and DigiTherm instruments were integrated and certified airworthy onboard a DLR Do 228 aircraft. In 2013, he coordinated the execution of the airborne multisensor data acquisition mission SOIMEX in the Rur catchment.
