He chairs the Thoracic Oncology Centre Munich and is cofounder and member of the comprehensive Pneumology Centre od Munich (CPC-M) and the German Centre for Lung Research (DZL). His work is focused on Thoracic Oncology.
He is active in all relevant national and international societies, active member/initiator of international task forces and (past) board member of the German Respiratory Society, European Respiratory Society, AIO of the German Cancer Society, Regent of IASLC for Europe and Governor for Germany of ACCP.
Apart from numerous clinical trials in respiratory medicine and thoracic oncology translational work is about reactions of the bronchial wall and stroma-tumour interactions, immune infiltrates and cytokine profiles of tumour and corresponding blood as well as reactions to targeted and combined treatment modalities using complex (organ) co-cultures systems.
