P J E Holt

Professor Peter Holt is Professor of Vascular Surgery at St George’s, University of London and consultant in vascular surgery at St George’s Vascular Institute. Professor Holt trained at St Mary's Hospital, Paddington before moving to Charing Cross Hospital then St George’s for vascular research and clinical practice. During his specialist training he spent two years performing General Surgery in Sheffield at the Northern General Hospital, before being returning to St George’s for his clinical vascular training. He also trained at the Queen Elizabeth Hospital, University of Adelaide, Australia Professor Holt was awarded an National Institute for Health Research (NIHR) Academic Clinical Lectureship in 2008 for his work on clinical outcomes research and vascular surgery service configuration. This award was superseded by a five-year NIHR Clinician Scientist Award in 2011. Through his research he has sat on a number of national committees including the quality improvement framework for vascular surgery and the audit and research committee of the Vascular Society of Great Britain and Ireland (VSGBI). He has been a clinical expert panel for a number of Strategic Health Authority level clinical review processes, including the Commissioning Support London Cardiovascular Review and Emergency Services Review. He has been a standing member on NICE Committees and MRHA committees. He represented the Royal College of Surgeons at the Association of Medical Royal Colleges for a consultation into surgical mortality. St George's Vascular Institute is a large tertiary referral centre specialising in aortic intervention and the management of the diabetic foot. The unit has one of the largest endovascular practices in the UK.
