Peter Askjaer

I studied biology at the University of Aarhus in Denmark (1990-1996) and obtained my PhD degree from the same institution in 2000 based on biochemical studies of protein-RNA interactions in the laboratory of Dr. Jørgen Kjems. I was at the European Molecular Biology Laboratory in Heidelberg, Germany as postdoctoral scientist with Dr. Iain Mattaj (2000-2004) before starting as independent Ramón y Cajal researcher associated with Dr. Cayetano González at the IRB in Barcelona, Spain (2004-2007). I am group leader at the Andalusian Center for Developmental Biology (CABD) in Seville, Spain since 2007 ("Científico Titular” 2008-2021; “Investigador Científico” 2021-). I serve as Scientific Supervisor of the CABD Bioinformatics Unit since January 2022 and CABD Vice Director since July 2022. My group focuses on understanding organisation of the eukaryotic nucleus and how mutations in nuclear envelope components affect development and human health.
