Logachev P. V. graduated from the Physical department of Novosibirsk state university in 1989. In July 1989 he was accepted for employment at Bulker INP in Novosibirsk as a junior scientific researcher. In 1989 - 1991 he did first experimental study of ultra-cold electron beam production process using a cooled down GaAs photocathode. At the same period Logachev P.V. actively took part in B-factory projects. One – at BINP, and second – at SLAC. In 1990 he spent 6 months at SLAC working in the team of Andrew Hutton on the final focus design for PEP-II.
In 1992 года Logachev P.V. got involved in the experimental investigation of intense source of polarized electrons, based on RF photo-gun with GaAs photocathode. This source is necessary for high-luminosity electron-positron colliders. New and important experimental results about GaAs photocathode operation in high accelerating field RF cavity were obtained by Logachev P.V. on the RF photo-gun prototype produced and tested at BINP. At the same time Logachev P.V. took an active part in the developing of new powerful injection complex for future electron-positron colliders in BINP. A few modern technologies were developed for basic subsystems of injection complex during this project implementation and most of them – first time in Russia. There are high-gradient S-band accelerating system, intense electron beam source and positron production system. In 1996 Logachev P.V. became a leader of this activity in BINP. As a result during the next 10 years three S-band linear accelerators: 300 MeV (electrons) and 500 MeV (positrons) for BINP injection complex and 200 MeV (electrons) for JINR (Dubna) resonant neutron source have been built and successfully tested at BINP.
Logachev P.V. suggested and experimentally tested in 1999 – 2001 the new method of non-destructive diagnostics for high intensity beams. This method utilizes a low energy precise electron beam as a probe substance for intense bunch investigation. The method is based on the probe electron beam deflection in the electromagnetic field of intense bunch. Electron beam probes, designed by Logachev P.V. are operated at BINP (Novosibirsk, Russia) and at SNS (ORNL, USA).
The prototype of rotating solid state neutron production target cooled by thermal radiation was developed and successfully tested under the leadership of Logachev P.V. in 2001 – 2006. It was a subject of ISTC project № 2257, where Logachav P.V. was a Project manager. The prototype of rotating graphite target had passed through long term high power electron beam test with electron beam DC power density of 100 kW/cm2. This target is one of key elements of future accelerator based complexes for radioactive ion beam production (ISOL technique). Further the same direction of research was successfully developed during the next ISTC project № 3682 implementation under the leadership of Logachev P.V. as a Project manager.
High electron beam intensity linear induction accelerator – injector was designed, produced and successfully tested in BINP (2006-2010) under the leadership of Logachev P.V. LIA-2 has an energy of 2 MeV, beam current 2000 A, beam pulse duration 200 ns, two pulses in one short, beam spot transverse size on the target of 1.6 mm (FWHM). Not normalized beam emittance is 20π*mm*mrad. LIA-2 is used for X-ray flash radiography.
Logachev P.V. got his PhD in 1996, in 2010 he take the degree of Doctor of physical and mathematical science (Russian qualification scale) and in 2011 he was elected as a corresponding member of Russian academy of science. Logachev P.V. was a supervisor of 7 PhD students. All of them got their PhD in BINP. Logachev P.V. gives lectures at Novosibirsk state university on the sources of charged particles beams.
