Noreen has over 20 years of experience in analytical geochemistry, geochronology and thermochronology. She has been a researcher in the John de Laeter Centre (JdLC) since 2004 and formally joined the School of Earth and Planetary Sciences in November 2012. Now migrated to the Jdlc, Noreen leads the laser ablation ICP-MS GeoHistory facility (infrastructure funded via AuScope via NCRIS (auscope.org.au), Curtin University and the ARC). The open access Facility houses two RESOlution excimer lasers, an Agilent 7900 quadrupole MS, Agilent 8900 QQQ MS, a Nu Plasma III multi-collector MS and a Thermo Fisher Neoma CRC-MC-ICPMS. The facility provides analytical solutions for academia, industry and government collaborators (jdlc.curtin.edu.au). Research applications include single stream and split-stream analysis (two mass spectrometers simultaneously analysing a single ablation product) of geological, industrial, biological and planetary materials. Innovative R&D projects have also been designed to enhance mineral and petroleum exploration, including demonstrating that zircon thermochronology can be used as a new diamond exploration technique in Australia.
