Rees Nigel

Nigel has worked in EMS since 1989 holding clinical, and R&I leadership roles. He is an Advanced Paramedic Practitioner, Assistant Director for Research & Innovation for WAST and Pre Hospital Emergency Research Unit lead. Since publishing his first article in 2005 on V&A directed towards Ambulance Personnel, has published 96 peer-reviewed papers in New England Journal of Medicine and Lancet publications. His research interests are broad and span psychosocial aspects of EMS such as V&A and mental Health to the deployment of defibrillators by Drones. He has led and collaborated on research totaling over 15 million in funding. Nigel has been Chief and Principal Investigator on world-class research in EMS including the PARAMEDIC 3 Trial, RAPID1 Trial and many others. Nigel is former Wales Council member for the College of Paramedics, and has led on position statements for legislators, professional bodies, Government and UK Parliament. This has included areas of public policy including alcohol, substance misuse and suicide prevention. Nigel is an Associate Editor for the journal PARAMEDICINE and Editorial Board Member for the Journal of Paramedic Practice. He contributes to many funding panels and groups including the HTA Clinical Trials, UKRI Future Flight, HCRW RfPPB and others. He is a Fellow of the College of Paramedic and was awarded the Queens Ambulance Medal in the 2017 New Years Honours.
