Dr Yap is an experienced computer vision scientist, with a strong background in medical imaging, and a certified Facial Action Coding System (FACS) Coder. Since 2009 she has been actively involved in the application of facial analysis and has published multiple research papers. In human behavioural analysis, She partnered with Emotional Intelligence Academy Ltd (EIA) in analysing face and gesture. Her research has attracted significant commercial interest, she is working closely with the behavioural scientists in Paul Ekman International plc (the originators of FACS coding) to develop a tool for analysing micro-facial expressions, as well as working with Steinkrug Publication Ltd on the relationship between facial signals and the performance of CANTABmobile. This project is investigating the potential of adapting facial signals on a portable device. Dr. Yap is actively involved in facial age estimation. To date, she is supervising two PhD students in facial analysis.
