Dr. Vasilyev was a co-Chair of the 2014 and 2015 IEEE Photonics Society Summer Topical Meetings on Nonlinear-Optical Signal Processing. He served as a Chair and Vice-Chair of Quantum Optics Technical Group of Quantum Electronics Division of the Optical Society of America (OSA). He is a co-founder and past Chair of the Fort Worth Chapter of the IEEE Photonics Society (formerly known as LEOS). He was an Associate Editor for IEEE/OSA Journal of Lightwave Technology in 2014-2020, and was the Primary Guest Editor of 2008 and 2012 “Nonlinear-Optical Signal Processing” special issues of the IEEE Journal of Selected Topics in Quantum Electronics. He has been a member or a chair of the technical program committees for the Optical Fiber Communication conference (2015-2018, 2021-2024), Photonics West conference (2014-2019), Conference on Lasers and Electro-Optics (2005-2007, 2013-2017), OSA Advanced Photonics Congress (2019-2023), Frontiers in Optics conference (2005-2008 and 2016-2017), and OSA’s Optical Amplifiers and their Applications (OAA) conference (2002-2004). He served as a president of the OSA Student Chapter at Northwestern University in 1998-1999 and as a principal organizer of the 2nd Midwest Regional Meeting of the OSA Student Chapters in 1998. Dr. Vasilyev is a faculty co-advisor of the OSA Student Chapter at the UTA. He is a Fellow of the OPTICA (formerly known as OSA) and SPIE, and a Senior Member of the IEEE Photonics and Communication Societies.
