Michael Meyer-Hermann currently heads the Department of Systems Immunology (SIMM) at the Helmholtz Centre for Infection Research. Research at the department focuses on understanding the immune system and its interaction with the nervous and the endocrine system as well as with microbiota. Infectious diseases and associated co-morbidities are essential threads for humanity and we aim at contributing to the development of new therapeutic strategies and to the optimised application of those to the individual patient. To achieve our goals we use artificial intelligence methods for patient data analysis and spatio-temporal mathematical models for predicting disease dynamics and responsiveness to treatments.
