O'Kane Maurice J

Maurice O’Kane received the Graduate degree in medicine from the University of Edinburgh. He undertook postgraduate training in Scotland, Ireland, and France, firstly in internal medicine and then in chemical pathology. He has been a Consultant Chemical Pathologist with Western Health and Social Care Trust, Ireland, for over 25 years, where he is currently the Head of the Clinical Biochemistry Laboratory Service, including point-of-care testing and with clinical interests in lipid disorders and diabetes mellitus. His research interests include point of care testing, patient self-management in chronic disease and the evaluation and the adoption/implementation of diagnostic tests. He is also the Joint Editor-in-Chief of the Annals of Clinical Biochemistry and the Director of Ireland Clinical Research Network. He has been a Visiting Professor in biomedical sciences with Ulster University for many years. Previous professional responsibilities have included the Director of Clinical Practice at the Association for Clinical Biochemistry and Laboratory Medicine (2014–2019) and the Director of Research of the Western Health and Social Care Trust (2009–2016). He has over 90 publications and has written three book chapters.
