Dr Grainge has developed a successful program of research in the area of database epidemiology. His main research interests are:
Use of electronic healthcare datasets to carry out research in clinical epidemiology, in particular the areas of haematology, rheumatology, oncology and dermatology
Using prospective data from these databases to identify transient risk factors for venous thromboembolism (VTE) in high risk groups (e.g. people with cancer, pregnant women and inflammatory bowel disease patients)
Cancer screening, chemoprevention and early diagnosis.
Adoption of novel methodological techniques in the design and analysis of data from clinical trials, observational studies and systematic reviews
