Martin Sylvester Bechteler

Martin Sylvester Bechteler was born in Munich, Germany, in 1941. He received the Dipl.–Ing. and Dr.–Ing. degrees from the Technische Hochschule München, Munich, in 1967 and in 1971, respectively. After working with the Optoelectronic Development Department, he joined the Power Semiconductor Group at Siemens, where he was responsible for the research and development of power semiconductors for electrical energy transportation and power electronics in cars. In 1992, he became a Professor with the Department of Electrical and Electronic Engineering, Munich University of Applied Sciences. He lectured on power electronics and automotive electronics and also guided developments in this field together with the industry. He is currently retired but still works as a consultant for the automotive industry concerning hybrid vehicles. He also lectures on the basics of electrical vehicles in cooperation with the Technical Supervisory Association Germany, offering worldwide consulting, testing, and certification services.
