Martin M. Ferguson

My career focus has been the application of molecular genetics to the understanding and treatment of disease. I have studied genes involved in leukaemia, Mendelian disease, and many complex traits. Much of my work has explored the impact of genetic variability on drug responses, including use of next generation and genome sequencing methods, and gene expression analysis of drug effects in animal and cellular models. I have also contributed to the understanding of complex human traits and diseases including inflammatory bowel disease, addiction, depression, and eating disorders. Additional research themes include G-quadruplex DNA structures and their relevance to imprinting and other aspects of genome biology, and the epigenomics of drug responses and disease.
