Prof. Dr. Marco A Calzado is associate professor at the University of Cordoba and group leader in the Inflammation and Cancer group belonging to the Maimonides Biomedical Research Institute of Cordoba (IMIBIC). He has 20 years of experience in basic research, and has worked in prestigious research institutes in Europe (University of St. Andrews – Scotland, University of Bern – Switzerland, University of Giessen – Germany). He is the author of more than 75 scientific articles in journals with a high impact rate (Nature Cell Biology, Molecular Cell, Cell Death & Differentiation, Oncogene, among others). He has an H index of 35, accumulating 4,041 total cites to date. In the last ten years he has published 40 works, the majority of which belong to Q1. He has had continuous funding since he started his own research line in 2010, obtaining 10 research projects of a competitive character in the last 10 years, where he is PI or Co-PI. His most recent research is focused on the knowledge of the regulation mechanisms of different cell signalling pathways, focusing on the role of kinases. In particular, he has described new and relevant cell mechanisms in response to stimulus such as hypoxia and DNA damage. His works dealing with the regulation mechanisms of DYRK2 and HIPK2 kinases are highlighted, amongst which the generation of new approximations for pharmacological modulations and their application to pathologies such as lung cancer stand out. Prof. Dr. Marco A Calzado combines all this activity with his teaching work at the University of Cordoba, where he directly and indirectly contributes to the formation of young researchers. Prof. Dr. Marco A Calzado has directed 15 PhD theses to date. All these students not only have received the highest mark, but also, in most cases, the doctoral students continue a successful postdoctoral career. He has taught undergraduate and postgraduate students continuously since 2009, has directed 10 Master’s Dissertation and 12 Bachelor's Degree Final Project to date. He is a regular collaborator as a reviewer in carious funding agencies (ANEP, FIS, FONTCyT) and Q1 scientific journals. He is also a member of different commissions and committees in the university field, all of which are directly connected to research.
