Under his leadership, ISSS recently got the best UK Electronic Engineering Department in Electronic Systems Award by the National Microelectronics Institute (NMI). Prof. Desmulliez established also the first UK Master of Science in Microsystems Engineering in 2001. MD has held grants of compounded value of more than £12M.

His research interests include MEMS design, manufacturing and test, packaging, microsystems for biomedical applications. His interest has turned recently to advanced manufacturing technologies, more specifically the understanding and translation of natural processes to manufacturing, an arguably new topic of research in engineering.
