Mirko Œernák obtained his MSc. and PhD. degrees in Plasma Physics from Comenius University, Bratislava, Slovak republic in 1979 and 1985. In 1985 he joined the Institute of Physics, Comenius University. In 1986-87 he spent one and half year as a Post-Doctoral Researcher at Nagoya Institute of Technology, Japan. From 1991 to 1992 he spent one year as Post-Doctoral Researcher at Laboratoire de Physique des Decharges CNRS, Gif-sur-Yvette, Orsay, France. From 1996 to 1999 he was the director of the Institute of Physics at the Faculty of Mathematics and Physics, Comenius University. From August 1999 till March 2000 he was as an Invited Professor with Shizuoka University, Japan. He is presently head of the Department of Physical Electronics and director of R&D Center for Low-Cost Plasma and Nanotechnology Surface Modifications at Masaryk University, Brno, Czech Republic. His present research interests include study of high-pressure electrical discharges, plasmachemistry, and applied electrostatics. He is co-author of over 100 scientific papers and 10 patents. He advised a career of total of 12 postgraduate scholars and current is advised 5 PhD. students.
