Pessoa, L.M.

Luís Pessoa (male) was born in Marco de Canaveses, Portugal, in 1983. He received the Licenciatura degree in 2006 and PhD degree in 2011, both in Electrical and Computer Engineering at the Faculty of Engineering of the University of Porto (FEUP), Portugal.  Currently he is Senior Researcher and Manager of the Optical and Electronic Technologies (OET) area from the Centre of Telecommunications and Multimedia at INESC TEC (Institute for Systems and Computer Engineering, Technology and Science), the largest R&D institute devoted to the ICT area in Portugal. He is responsible for the overall coordination of the OET area, including the management of the team with 10 PhD holders, the conception and management of R&D projects, coordination of research students and fostering the valorisation of research results through the negotiation of contracts with industry. He is also member of the coordination council of the Centre of Telecommunications and Multimedia. He has been previosuly involved in teaching of Electromagnetic Waves, Optical Communications, Fundamentals of Digital Signal Processing, RF/microwave engineering and Circuits Theory at the Electrical and Computer Engineering Department of FEUP, as well as Optical Communications within the MAP-Tele programme, a joint doctoral programme involving the universities of Minho, Aveiro and Porto. Luís Pessoa has coordinated several national and international research projects and participated in several European Union funded research projects. Since 2007 he has authored/co-authored more than 60 publications in international conferences and journals with peer-review (including 14 journal papers and 6 book chapters) and 4 EPO patents. In total, these publications have attracted 615 citations according to Google Scholar (user: kR6648UAAAAJ) with, h-index of 15. He is currently supervising 2 ongoing PhD thesis, has co-supervised 2 concluded PhD thesis, and has participated as principal jury in 4 PhD examinations. He has research interests in reconfigurability of antenna arrays, thin and flexible substrates and special materials for antenna design up to sub-THz, localisation with wireless signals and underwater optical wireless communications.
