Kyle A O'Connell

Dr. O’Connell is a data scientist with a background in bioinformatics, statistical modeling, and population genomics. His professional experience comes from academic research settings where he earned a PhD in Quantitative Biology from the University of Texas at Arlington and two competitive Postdoctoral Research Fellowships at the National Museum of Natural History, Smithsonian Institution, and at The George Washington University. His research focused on leveraging emerging genomic technologies and machine learning methods to enable the sequencing and analysis of historical DNA samples of non-model organisms. In these roles, Dr. O’Connell developed novel wet-lab techniques and custom data analysis pipelines using the Python and R programming languages and published 20 peer-reviewed articles. Dr. O’Connell also conducted field work in Nepal, Indonesia, Central and South America, and North America and established a global network of research collaborators. Further, Dr. O’Connell served as Adjunct Professor of Genetics at The George Washington University and led a project on increasing student retention using strategic technologies in the classroom. Dr. O’Connell’s work at Deloitte focuses on leveraging AI and cloud technologies to accelerate genomic workflows in the federal health sector.
