Jakob Kljun

I started my career researching bioactive ruthenium complexes during my PhD studies (2008-2013) and subsequent postdoc project (2014-2016) within the group of prof. Iztok Turel with intermediate brief stints first as crystallography expert at EN-FIST Centre of excellence and then in research in organic synthesis of medicinal agents on an industrial project with Lek (Sandoz group company). I later specialized in different fields of chemical synthesis and characterization of novel small-molecule compounds. My research experiences allowed me to collaborate first-hand with world-renowned experts in the fields of biochemistry, microbiology and pharmacy. After obtaining a permanent teaching position at FKKT, UL in 2016 and continuing my work within the Turel group my research interest expanded to the design and synthesis of molecules containing sulfur functional groups to serve either as ligands for metallodrug design or as inhibitors of pharmaceutically relevant metalloproteins.
