My research career began in quantum physics and my group is still very active in this field (Quantum Measurement & Manipulation Group). This work led me to using citizen science and develop the research games platform ScienceAtHome. As I explored the possibilities of crowdsourcing for research and the importance of keeping humans firmly in technological loops, my Center for Hybrid Intelligence took form.

In his interdisciplinary Center both human and algorithmic problem-solving is investigated through the lense of machine optimization, psychology, cognitive science and behavioral economics. Apart from natural and social science games, he is also investigating large-scale game-based assessment of both basic cognitive skills and 21st century skills like creativity.
