During last 40 years engaged in study fauna, ecology, systematics, evolution and phylogeny of sessile protists. The basic interests concerned Suctorea, Chonotrichia and Apostomatea (Ciliophora). Recently appreciable attention give to development of the concept of a hydrodynamical boundary layer as an adaptive zone for sessile protists. Also interesting in questions of evolution of protists ontogenesis and in the problems of origin of Metazoa. Have more 200 publications.
