Giuseppe Pulina has a Bachelor in Agriculture from the University of Sassari and a Ph.D. in Animal Science from the School Ministry of Rome. He has been Director of the Department of Agriculture of the University of Sassari, where he is Full Professor of Animal Production at the Section of Animal Science of the same Department. He is vice-rector of Research at the same University. He was for 5 years (2014-19) General Manager of Ente Foreste della Sardegna (Sardinia Agency for Forestry). Giuseppe Pulina is author of approximately 370 scientific and technical papers on topics related to: dairy sheep and goat feeding and nutrition, mathematical modelling of animal production systems, analyses of environmental and animal systems, milk quality, environmental impact of grazers, genetic improvement of dairy sheep, and evaluation systems in science. He is author of the books entitled “Introduzione alla modellizzazione dinamica nella biologia applicata” (Introduction to modelling in experimental biology; published by MG, Bergamo, in 2000), “Etic@ricerca.edu, breviario di etica per scienziati in formazione” (Ethics@research, breviary of ethics for scientists in training; published by SPLUS, Pisa, 2010) and “Modelli matematici per le scienze animali” (Mathematical models in animal science; published by SPLUS, Pisa, 2011). He has also developed 4 software packages on programming and management of animal production systems. He is editor of the books “Dairy sheep feeding and nutrition” (CABI, 2004) and “Dairy goats feeding and nutrition” (CABI, 2007). He has been co-ordinator and lecturer of training courses on ruminants production and on statistics and modelling in biological applied science target at graduate and undergraduate students, researchers and experts (Veterinarians, Agronomists, Foresters, Biologists). He is co-ordinator of several national and international research units and of the Italian Sheep and Goat commission of European Association of Animal Production. He founded and was General Director of AGRIS Sardegna (Agricultural Research Agency of Sardinia) from 2007 to 2009. He is honorary President of the “Associazione per la Scienza e le Produzioni Animali” (Animal Science and Production Association, ASPA), owner of the Italian Journal of Animal Science. He has been Vice-President of the “Associazione Italiana Società Scientifiche Agrarie (Italian Association of the Agricultural Sciences) and of the “Società Italiana per il Progresso della Zootecnia” (SIPZOO). He is also member of the American Society of Dairy Science, and of the “Accademia dei Georgofili and Accademia Agraria” of Pesaro. He is referee of international (Australian Journal of Experimental Agriculture, International Dairy Journal, Animal Feed Science and Technology, Italian Journal of Animal Science, Small Ruminant Research, Food Microbiology, Journal of Dairy Science) and national scientific and technical journals (Agricoltura Mediterranea, L’Informatore Agrario).
