G. Harp

Gerry R. Harp (Member, IEEE) received the B.S. degrees in mathematics and physics, the M.S. degree in physics, and the Ph.D. degree in physics all from the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee, Milwaukee. After postdoctoral appointments at the IBM Almaden Research Center, San Jose, CA, he joined the physics faculty at Ohio University, achieving tenure in the field of solid state physics in 1998. Later he joined a startup developing virtual-reality systems in Silicon Valley (Computer Graphics Systems Development). In 2001, he joined the SETI Institute, Mountain View, CA, where he now works as Senior Astrophysicist. He has authored many peer-reviewed papers in physics and engineering, published in fields including surface science, ultrathin film superlattices, electron scattering, photoabsorption and photoemission from surfaces, electron microscopy, electron/optical/radio holography, radio interferometer design, and SETI. His present interests include calibration and imaging in radio astronomy, and the search for extraterrestrial intelligence with the Allen Telescope Array. Dr. Harp is a member of the American Physical Society and the American Astronomical Society.
