Flavio T. Couto

Dr. Couto has interests in meteorology and climatology, in particular in atmospheric modelling of extreme weather phenomena. In 2010, he received a Bachelor's degree in Meteorology from the Federal University of Pelotas (UFPel; Brazil). Subsequently he undertook a Master's degree in Earth, Atmospheric and Space Sciences (Atmospheric Physics and Climate) from the University of Évora (Évora, Portugal), graduating in 2011. In 2016, he obtained his European PhD in Earth and Space Sciences (Atmospheric Physics and Climate) at the University of Évora, with international mobility at the Centre National de Recherches Météorologiques (CNRM, Météo-France; Toulouse, France). Currently, he is a researcher at University of Évora, developing research under the CILIFO (cilifo.eu) and FIREPOCTEP (firepoctep.eu) projects. In addition, he is PI of the PyroC.pt project. He is the main author of 8 articles published in international scientific journals covering topics related to fire weather, heavy orographic precipitation and emission and transport of mineral dust. In 2022 and 2023, he was at the University of Corsica (Corte, Corsica, France) carrying out coupled fire-atmosphere simulations using an atmospheric model (MesoNH) and a fire propagation model (ForeFire).
