个人简介
My research interests focus on how atypical language development, due to early onset deafness, impacts language and reading skills. I have investigated the behavioural and neurological correlates of comprehension and production of language in deaf people, including sign language, speechreading and reading.
I am particularly interested in how the use of phonological information and semantic properties of language influence reading attainment in deaf people. My long-term research goal is to identify the variables that contribute to reading proficiency in people born deaf. This knowledge would allow us to develop training programmes aimed to improve the reading ability of deaf children and adults. My work will also inform our understanding of the reading process more broadly. This could allow for more parsimonious theories and contribute to the development of wider-reaching training programmes.
