Eliot Lear

With over 35 years of experience in the networking world, Eliot serves as a principal engineer for Cisco Systems, where he focuses on new technologies and business development in the areas of network management, applications, and security. He his current focus is on IoT security and onboarding, where he has developed an architecture known as Manufacturer Usage Descriptions. He has managed large networks and operation centers, and set baseline capability standards for Cisco products. A senior member of the Internet Engineering Task Force (IETF), Eliot is the author of numerous Requests For Comments (RFCs), has served in numerous positions, such as working group chair, IETF liaison manager to the International Telecommuniations Union, and member of the Internet Architecture Board. He has served on US delegations to the ITU, where he crafted cybersecurity policy recommendations for member states in the ITU. From 2002 – 2006 he was the technical lead on the CDO Architecture Baseline project, driving a system view to our product line. He rapidly deployed a NOC for NetAid in 1999. He is responsible for Networkers network management content. Prior to joining Cisco in 1998 Eliot was the Internet Architect for Silicon Graphics, Inc. He has only recently learned how to use a comb.
