At the time Dr. Silvers assumed the leadership, the laboratory was processing 4,000 specimens annually. The Dermatopathology Laboratory now processes over 125,000 specimens that are submitted by physicians practicing at the Columbia-Presbyterian campus as well as in surrounding communities. Dr. Silvers plays a major role in teaching medical students and residents in the Department of Dermatology, as well as the Department of Pathology. His professional activities include frequent consultation on medical-legal matters. He has published over one hundred articles in peer-reviewed journals. He is a member of numerous professional societies in addition to his membership in The New York Dermatologic Society.
