Bio
Dr. Daniel Barreda received his PhD degree in Physiology and Cell Biology from the University of Alberta, and a PDF from the University of Pennsylvania School of Medicine. He is currently a Professor in Immunology and Animal Health at the University of Alberta, Canada. The Barreda lab investigates the evolution of leukocyte immune defense mechanisms, and its implications for health and disease. Core competencies are in comparative immunology, animal infection models, primary cell culture, evaluation of cell function and animal behaviour. Most recently, this work has offered novel fundamental insights into the relationship between host, pathogens, and the environment, and applications that harness natural biological mechanisms to foster health. Dr. Barreda is also a decorated teacher, with major awards at the university and international levels.
