Daniel Oblak received the M.Sc. degree from Aarhus University, Aarhus, Denmark, and the Ph.D. degree in physics from the Niels Bohr Institute, University of Copenhagen, Copenhagen, Denmark, on quantum non-demolition measurements and spin-squeezing on the atomic clocktransition in laser-cooled cesium atoms. Following a Postdoctoral position with the University of Calgary, Calgary, AB, USA, he was appointed an Assistant Professor and currently acts as the Principal Investigator of the Quantum Cloud Lab, University of Calgary. The lab.s research focuses on practical realizations of quantum networks, including quantum key-distribution over deployed fibers and to satellites. The lab also researches quantum memory and transducers using rare-earth ion-based materials, and ultra-weak photon-emission from biological samples. He is a Member of the Institute for Quantum Science and Technology, Quantum Alberta, and the Steering Committee of the Alberta Major Innovation Fund project on Quantum Technologies. He is a Member of the Canadian Quantum Satellite (QEYSSat) Science Team and the Intelligent Quantum Networks and Technologies (INQNET) Collaboration. He is a co-founder of two startups lead by graduate students and postdocs from his research group.
