Daivid Fowler received the 1st class honors degree in physics from the University of Hull, Hull, U.K., in 2001, and the Ph.D. degree from the Semiconductor Quantum Physics Group, University of Nottingham, Nottingham, U.K., in 2005, studying non-linear electron dynamics in novel III-V superlattices. Since then, he has been a Research Engineer, firstly investigating III-V-based terahertz sources/detectors with the University of Nottingham, before moving on to quantum cascade lasers with the Institut d'Électronique Fondamentale, Université de Paris 11, Paris, France. In late 2010, he joined the CEA Grenoble, as a Research Engineer initially in the field of optics and plasmonics for cooled infrared detectors. Since 2012, he has been working in the domain of silicon photonics specializing in component design and development, and in particular, fibre coupling methods and integrated optical phased arrays. He is the author or coauthor of about 60 scientific articles and 15 patents.
