Curtis L. Smith

Dr. Smith has been in the risk and reliability assessment field for over 18 years. He has worked at the Idaho National Laboratory as a safety specialist and has consulted to a diverse set of organizations including the Department of Energy, the Nuclear Regulatory Commission, the National Aeronautics and Space Administration, the International Atomic Energy Agency, and other government and private companies. He recently served as a visiting scientist to the OECD-sponsored Halden Reactor Project performing human performance-related research. Currently he is the project manager for the NRC's SAPHIRE risk analysis software, serves as a lead instructor for the Risk Assessment Training program, and was selected by NASA for the Independent Peer Review Panel for the Space Shuttle PRA. He serves on the ASME Executive Committee for the Safety Engineering and Risk Analysis Division (SERAD). Dr. Smith has published over 65 papers and reports on risk and reliability theory and applications. Dr. Smith has a B.S. and M.S. in Nuclear Engineering from Idaho State University and a Ph.D. in Nuclear Engineering from M.I.T.
