Bio
Currently working on a book titled Chinese Language Education: Representation, Imagination and Ideologies of China with Routledge Publishers. It will be published on December 1st, 2023.
I possess nearly 20 years of frontline teaching, working and researching experience in diverse educational/research settings in both rural and urban regions in China and Australia.
I am a keen interdisciplinary early researcher in the fields of China study, globalisation, identity reinvention, risk-taking, self-care, teacher work-life balance, primary education, and multiculturalism. I am particularly interested in how globalization and liquid modernity impact self-identity formation in everyday life choices and how personal choices shape the transformation of an institution one works/lives in. My research interests also include these themes: China as Method, reconciliation with the First Nations, language policy, curriculum development, school internationalization, second language teaching methodologies, synchronize and asyhchronize teaching (hybrid/blend) methods in the Age of the COVID-19 pandemic. I prefer qualitative research methods such as autoethnography, narrative inquiry, and applying British STS theorist John Law's material semiotics in educational research.
My PhD thesis is China, A Hybrid Assemblage: symbol, metaphor and identity in a language program. I investigate “What is China” in the Australian context. Specifically, through research on the social, cultural, emotional/personal, and pedagogical meanings of a Chinese language education program in an Australian primary school institution, I examine individuals’ emotional, intellectual and psychological responses to the complex, fluid globalisation. I look at personal risk-taking in the process of contemporary knowledge flow and production. I explore how Western and Chinese notions might be used together to reshape and decolonise social science.
Apart from being an early career researcher, I am a certified primary school (maths/Chinese/general) teacher in both China and Australia. Working as a teacher is my passion but it also provides me free time to research what I am passionate about. I am a certified positive psychotherapy family consultant and yoga teacher. I enjoy doing volunteer work in my community. As a free-will thinker, I love/enjoy the journey of exploring the world and truth independently. Through education and lifelong learning, I work to reveal my/others’ hidden gems and to make this world a better place...
