I am a computational biologist with research expertise in statistical genetics, medical informatics, and machine learning, and a clinical focus on Stroke and Neurocritical Care. I have devoted my career to developing and exploring the clinical impact of computational methods to define biological mechanisms involved in cerebrovascular disease, with the ultimate goal of using this information to drive improvements in stroke care through the identification of novel treatment targets as well as the design and implementation of precision strategies to guide primary and secondary prevention. I hold independent research awards in medical genetics and computational biology and informatics, as well as multi-institutional collaborations in the use of machine learning to guide clinical trial development and the identification of novel risk factors for Brain Health. My extensive collaborations within the International Stroke Genetics Consortium, formal training in translational research and therapeutic development, and access to exceptional personnel and resources at Brigham and Women’s Hospital (BWH), Massachusetts General Hospital (MGH), and the Broad Institute uniquely position me to carry out projects leveraging large scale genetic and health informatics data towards clear clinical impact.
As Chief of Stroke and Cerebrovascular Diseases at BWH and faculty in the MGH McCance Center for Brain Health, I jointly manage laboratories and research teams in the BWH Department of Neurology, the MGH Center for Genomic Medicine, and the Broad Institute’s Data Sciences Platform and Program in Medical and Population Genetics. I supervise trainees and staff scientists/engineers with formal training backgrounds and professional experience in medical and statistical genetics, computational biology, neurology, cardiology, machine learning, computer science, and software engineering.
