Christian Heinz Anderwald was born in Austria on January 29th, 1970. He received his M.pharm and M.D. degrees in 1994 and 2002, respectively and that of an M.B.A in 2010. Between 1995 and 2010 he successfully completed his training as an Internist, Endocrinologist, Emergency Physician and Community Pharmacist and received his board certification as an Associate Professor of Internal Medicine in 2009. Since 2002 he has been working clinically and scientifically at the Department of Internal Medicine III of the Medical University of Vienna, also as Principal Investigator in the EU-funded project: Relationship between Insulin Sensitivity and Cardiovascular Disease (RISC). From 2006 to 2010, he was Scientific Vice-Chairman of the Medical-Technical Academy of Studying Diet Assistants, General Hospital (AKH) Vienna, and from 2007 to 2011, he was a member of the Steering Committee of the European Group for the Study of Insulin Resistance (EGIR). He is a member of the Austrian Diabetes Society (ÖDG) and the Austrian Journalists' Club (ÖJC). Anderwald has received numerous scientific awards, including the Bank Austria Research Award for Medical Thesis from the University of Vienna, the Thesis Award from the AKH Vienna, and the Theodor Billroth Award from the Vienna Medical Association. From 2011 to 2015 he was Head of the Medical Department and Hospital Director of the Agathenhof Complex in Micheldorf, Austria, specializing in metabolism. He is currently working as a scientist in the field of Internal Medicine and Endocrinology and Metabolism at the Medical University of Vienna based at the AKH and at the Paracelsus Medical University of Salzburg. He is currently the head/director of the Arnoldstein Health Center in Arnoldstein, Southern Austria, with both medical and pharmacy units such as a medical practice and a community pharmacy. He has published more than 100 scientific papers and is a member of world-renowned editorial boards in Endocrinology and Metabolism.
