Bio
Bruno C L Macena. Brazilian. Completed the Ph.D. in Oceanography in 2016 by Universidade Federal de Pernambuco (UFPE), Master in Fisheries Resources and Aquaculture in 2010 by Universidade Federal Rural de Pernambuco (UFRPE), Postgraduate Certificate in Business Management in 2011 by KM Consultores Associados, Postgraduate Certificate in Oceanography in 2007 by UFPE with a full scholarship, and Bachelor of Biological Sciences in 2006 by UFRPE. Executive coordinated a pioneer 10-year elasmobranch monitoring program using multi-methods (mark/recapture, photo-identification, population genetic, and acoustic and satellite telemetry) in a remote archipelago off Brazil. Experienced in project coordination and leadership, scientific expedition planning/boarding, sea fieldwork, SCUBA, and free-diving and manipulating wild fish to tag. Interested in ecology and biology of fishes, with emphasis on elasmobranch, using different methods of mark/recapture and biotelemetry, remote sensing, and ecological and environmental modeling. Currently works as a postdoctoral researcher in the Okeanos R&D Center with movement and spatial ecology of large pelagic fishes to understand the influence of the environment in the species distribution and behavior. Participates in the conception of non-invasive tagging methods for endangered species and in the development of packages of multi-sensor electronic tags to assess biological and physiological aspects of fishes.
