Bio
CIRES research scientist Bianca Adler joined PSL's Boundary Layer Observations and Processes team in April 2020. Bianca’s research focus lies on the physical processes in the boundary layer over different types of surfaces, such as mountainous terrain. She is using meteorological observations along with numerical simulations to enhance the understanding of boundary layer processes. In particular, she is investigating how the integration of multiple remote sensing and in situ instruments can be used to extract useful meteorological information.
Bianca studied meteorology at the University of Karlsruhe and earned her PhD at the Karlsruhe Institute of Technology (KIT) in Germany. She was a visiting scientist in the Mountain Meteorology group at the University of Utah in Salt Lake City, UT. During her PhD and Postdoc at KIT, Bianca did extensive field work and participated at several field campaigns around the world: she studied water vapor transport processes on the mountainous island of Corsica within HyMeX, nocturnal flows in a meteor crater basin in Arizona within METCRAX II, low-level clouds in in south- western Africa during the monsoon season within DACCIWA, flows in the urban boundary layer in mountainous terrain in Germany within [UC]2, and coastal fog in Namibia within NaFoLiCA. In 2019, she was PI of the CROSSINN field campaign in Austria investigating the three-dimensional flow structure in a major Alpine valley.
Outside of work, Bianca enjoys being outdoors and enjoys activities such as mountainbiking, hiking, climbing, skiing and camping. After exploring many of the European mountains, she is now excited to get to know the Rockies and southern Utah.
