Dr Bentrem is currently Associate Professor of Surgery at the Northwestern University Feinberg School of Medicine and a staff physician at the Jesse Brown VA Medical Center. His research focuses on the development of quality measures in cancer surgery. This work is funded by a Career Development Award from the Health Services Research Division of the Veterans Administration.
He is currently on the Public Policy Committee for the Society of Surgery of the Alimentary Tract and served as an instructor with the American College of Surgeons for the High 5s international surgical safety project.
