Basem Shihada

Basem Shihada (Senior Member, IEEE) received the Ph.D. degree in computer science from the University of Waterloo. He is currently a Professor with the Computer Science and Electrical and Computer Engineering Programs, Computer, Electrical and Mathematical Sciences and Engineering (CEMSE) Division, King Abdullah University of Science and Technology (KAUST). In 2009, he was appointed as a Visiting Faculty Member with the Department of Computer Science, Stanford University. His work received several awards and honors, including two best paper awards in AFIN and IEEE WiMob. He has coauthored more than 170 articles in the field of wireless networks. His research interests include the topics in energy and resource allocation in wired and wireless networks, software-defined networking, cloud/edge computing, the Internet of Things, data networks, and underwater networks. He serves as a Senior Editor for IEEE Communications Letters, an Associate Editor for Frontiers in Communication and Networks, and an Editor for Photonic Network journal. He served as the Track Chair, the Organizing Chair, the Publication Chair, and the Technical Program Committee for several conferences, such as VTC, InfoCom, Globecom, ICC, Mobiquitous, WCNC, and others. He is a Professional Member of ACM. His work on underwater networks, specifically Aqua-Fi, got the world attention and resulted into wide international media coverage.
