Arun Kumar

Arun Kumar received the bachelor's degree in civil engineering from the University of Roorkee, Roorkee, India, in 1979, the master's degree in civil engineering from the Indian Institute of Science, Bangalore, India, in 1981, and the Ph.D. degree in hydro power development from the Indian Institute of Technology Roorkee, Roorkee, India, in 2008. He is currently a Professor with the Alternate Hydro Energy Centre, Indian Institute of Technology Roorkee, Roorkee, India. He has authored and co-authored 19 books and about 135 research papers in peer-reviewed journals and international conferences, as well as authored various reports and resource papers and has been the Principal Investigator/Investigator in more than 700 projects with a total outlay of more than 14 million dollars. His research interest includes the performance evaluation of hydro projects and renewable energy systems, hydraulic turbines, standards for SHP and environmental management of lakes and rivers, comprehensive use of solar energy, and performance and reliability of PV technologies. Prof. Kumar currently acts as the independent Director of National Hydroelectric Power Corporation, Ltd., appointed by the Government of India. He was also the Chair Professor (renewable energy) appointed by the Ministry of New and Renewable Energy, Indian Institute of Technology Roorkee, from 2013 to 2015.
